Message from the Friends President 

I encourage everyone who loves reading to join the Friends of the Essex Public Library. A library brings the wonderful gift of reading to one and all with no distinctions as to age, race, gender, or money. With a book you can go anywhere, be anything and even learn to do whatever your heart desires. Your public library gives you thousands of books to choose from and you don't have to put them away! Be a friend. Join the Friends. 

Weekend with a Writer

Each spring we bring a well known author to Essex County for a weekend of sharing our love for literature. The weekend opens on Friday night with dinner at a local spot. In most years it continues with a more informal event on the following Saturday at the library. When an author we love is not able to commit to a whole weekend we sponsor a Weekday with a Writer, usually at lunchtime. Past authors have included Emyl Jenkins, Governor Linwood Holton, David Robbins, Sherri Reynolds and Martin Clark.

What We Do

In addition to hosting Weekend with a Writer we also support many library functions with refreshments and willing volunteers. The Friends also supports the library with money. 100% of your membership dues goes to the library each year to provide extras such as books, computers, microfilm readers and magazine subscriptions.

How to Join

Annual Membership in the Friends is $20 per family and runs till May of the year in which you join. Click on the Membership Form Link below and you can print it out and mail it with your check to the address on the form.
