"A book is the only place in which you can examine a fragile thought without breaking it, or explore an explosive idea without fear it will go off in your face... one of the few havens remaining where a man's mind can get both provocation and privacy."

—Charles Langbridge Morgan

Gone With the Wind - a Dinner and Exhibit

A Southern dinner and a discussion of a Southern epic story the weekend of April 15/16 holds excitement for our area. On Friday, April 15, author Ellen Brown will discuss her book, "Margaret Mitchell's Gone With the Wind - a bestseller's odyssey from Atlanta to Hollywood." Along with co-author John Wiley, Jr., she wrote of how this book has survived, how Mitchell wrote and re-wrote the book, and how this iconic novel became an international phenomenon. This Weekend with a Writer event is jointly sponsored by the Friends of the Essex Public Library and the Essex County Museum and Historical Society.

On Saturday, April 16, 1 - 4 p.m., the Essex County Museum on Water Lane will open its Civil War Sesquicentennial exhibit "Confederate Essex 1861-1865." Brown will again greet and speak at this wine and hors d'oeuvres reception. Entrance to this event is $5 for Friends/Museum members; $10 for others. Join either group now and get the reduced prices. At both events, memorabilia from the making of "Gone With the Wind" will be on display and books will be for sale.
